imoves is a dedicated and expert team of individuals who have all come together for one sole purpose – to help teachers and schools get young people across the UK and beyond more active, every day.
Why? It’s well-documented that even with regular PE lessons within school, plus opportunities to run around at break times (and at home), the vast majority of primary school children are simply not getting the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity each and every day.
And yet, it’s also widely known that physical exercise results in brighter, healthier and happier children and that it can have a very real and significant impact on all areas of their life – from improving concentration, enhancing motivation, and boosting overall school performance to increasing energy levels, building emotional resilience, and developing social skills and self-confidence.
We understand that despite all of this evidence, teachers and teaching staff simply have too many demands and are under too much pressure to meet ever-growing targets to fit anymore into their already overflowing daily schedules.
And this is where the imoves team comes in.
With extensive knowledge and experience from across the health, wellbeing, and fitness industries as well as the education sector itself and the commercial arena, the team has carefully created and developed a comprehensive suite of resources aimed at supporting schools to bring the benefits of enhanced movement to their classrooms – quickly and effortlessly.
From engaging lesson ideas and ready-made handouts, flash cards, videos, and online tutorials – imoves’ innovative yet simple subscription-based programme equips teachers with literally everything they need to get their pupils even more active, no matter what subject they’re learning.
A programme specifically and lovingly designed to save teachers time and reduce stress, and support them in achieving enhanced academic results through a more dynamic, fun and mutually-rewarding learning environment.
And, the impact of the imoves programme is already being felt - not just across the UK – but in Schools worldwide with thousands of teachers and their schools reaping the benefits of children who are more active, more focused and energetic, more engaged and inspired – and who are genuinely happier and healthier than ever before.
With an illustrious career within the health, fitness, and nutrition arena spanning over two decades, Imogen Buxton-Pickles brings a wealth of knowledge, experience, and unwavering passion to her role as Co-Founder of imoves - an organisation dedicated to getting young people across the UK and beyond more active. A devotee of physical movement, and a staunch advocate for the vital role it has in ensuring optimum health and wellbeing, Imogen has made it her lifelong mission to get individuals of all ages involved in exercise, and in supporting them to find and nurture their own enduring love of it along the way – whatever form that may take. Formerly Head of Leisure and Wellbeing at international training company A4e Ltd, Imogen has an extensive and impressive list of professional credentials to her name, including Central YMCA (now the YMCA Awards) qualifications in Exercise to Music, Nutrition & &eight Management, and Freestyle Choreography, certified UK presenter status for the New York City Ballet Workout, and International Dance Teachers’ Association certifications in jazz and gymnastics (to name just a few). Having worked alongside individuals from all generations over the past 20 years to promote the tangible benefits of exercise, Imogen now dedicates herself to supporting teachers and wider school personnel to deliver innovative and simple exercise programmes via the imoves brand - all carefully created and designed to encourage children to move more. And, now with a young daughter of her own, Imogen is seeing first-hand as a parent just how taking part in a small amount of exercise each day can significantly impact a child’s concentration, educational attainment, and self-belief – habits and consequences that once instilled, can last a lifetime. Through her years of experience and through the personal relationships she’s made with those across the education sector, Imogen understands completely the immense and ever-increasing pressures teachers are under to deliver their overarching objectives, let alone the added pressures involved in introducing even more to their daily workload. Which, is why, she has worked phenomenally hard alongside the wider imoves team to develop a comprehensive programme that equips teachers with everything they need to help their pupils become more active – at the literal click of a button. Imogen is extremely proud of everything the imoves team has achieved to date, and she is wholly committed to driving forward its collective mission to spearhead truly positive and long-lasting change across schools UK-wide over the years to come. Alongside her role at imoves, Imogen is also a Tutor and Course Director for Northern Fitness and Education, and is a Pure Energy sponsored dance-fitness presenter.
A former consultant within the healthcare industry with exceptional experience of overseeing successful project delivery as well as organisational restructures and brand management, Ian now channels his expertise in driving forward a ground-breaking movement whose mission it is to get young people across the country more active. Ian is Co-Owner and Managing Director of imoves – a pioneering organisation that has become one of the UK’s leading ed-tech companies, and which creates and delivers simple but innovative digital content packages to support teachers in getting primary school children more involved in physical exercise. With his management background spanning over 25 years, Ian leads on all commercial and operational functions for imoves – ensuring that the team continues to deliver very real and tangible results on behalf of teachers, and that it proactively seeks and secures additional opportunities to enhance its suite of tools to enable them to get more young people moving (with the maximum of ease). Ian’s previous positions have seen him work alongside the NHS on the Connecting for Health programme, a project responsible for the delivery of a single system of electronic care records for all patients (a project everyone who receives NHS care in the UK will have benefitted from!).
His time as an engagement manager for a principal sustainability consultancy saw him lead on structural reorganisation across sales and marketing divisions, and more recently as a principal consultant, Ian worked within the pharmaceutical industry on strategy planning and brand management. Through all of these roles, Ian has identified the immense power of collaboration and the very real difference that individuals and organisations working together can make in achieving a common goal.
And, it’s this that is driving Ian’s personal mission to get every single child across the UK more active – to not only make a difference to the lives of young people and their families, but the education sector and wider society too. Ian believes that the current, and ever-growing, obesity crisis here in the UK is one that has the potential to destroy a generation and see the NHS come under even more pressure than ever before. But, he believes strongly that it’s a crisis that can easily be diverted with the right tools. And which is why he’s so proud to be leading the revolution that is imoves.
Thousands of children across the UK and beyond have benefitted from Gaye’s extensive Pilates knowledge and expertise over the past 20 years.
As the organisation’s dedicated Content Writer and Senior Presenter, Gaye is instrumental in developing imoves’ core suite of materials aimed at motivating and inspiring young people to get up off their seats and get active.
She’s also a very familiar face as she takes the lead on delivering many of the resources which schools gain access to once they sign up to the imoves programme. What Gaye doesn’t know about Pilates literally isn’t worth knowing – she is a true master in her field and is a leading light in the teaching of the exercise within schools.
Her experience is extensive, dating back to the early 1980s when she first took on the role of student teacher of dance at the Maureen Law Theatre School, before travelling across Asia touring with her very own dance troupe! Gaye subsequently spent many years as a fitness instructor in Hong Kong before moving back to the UK where undertook various roles including Fitness Instructor for the YMCA West London, Tutor and Assessor for the Pilates Institute, and official Fitness Consultant for the BBC. Her ultimate mission is to encourage children to put down the tech gadgets and to move more – an ethos that fits perfectly with imoves’ overarching mission.
